Legacy Reading Series

To celebrate The Boomerang Theatre Company's rich history, 2010 will mark the debut of The Legacy Reading Series, a new annual event featuring readings of plays from Boomerang's past seasons. These events will be focused on keeping the spirit of these plays alive, and allow those who might have missed them the first time around a chance to experience them. Proceeds from The Legacy Series will benefit Boomerang’s new play development programs.

Kicking off the series will be the lovely and touching adult fable The Monster Tales by Mary Jett Parsley Wrenn. The Monster Tales had its New York premiere with Boomerang in 2002, and tells the story of a lonely young woman who discovers her singular humanity when a monster appears from under her bed. Following Boomerang’s production the play was published in New York Theatre Experience’s Plays and Playwrights 2004 anthology.

The next reading in the series will be Kelly McAllister's award-winning Burning the Old Man. Meet Bobby & Marty, two brothers taking their father's ashes to The Burning Man Festival when their car explodes at a roadside motel. How they'll get there now is anybody's guess. Following Boomerang's production the play was awarded the 2005 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Full Length Play, and was published in New York Theatre Experience's Plays and Playwrights 2006 anthology.
