ABOUT BOOMERANG

Our Mission

Established in 1999, the Boomerang Theatre Company is committed to captivating diverse audiences with bold, thought-provoking stories. We produce distinctive works – new, classic, or overlooked – that explore the depths of human experience through compelling characters and engaging narratives. Our focus is on fostering a deep connection between artists and audiences, challenging the perceived limitations for an Off-Off Broadway/Indie theatre company and presenting ambitious productions that resonate with the shared stories of our community.

Our History

The Boomerang Theatre Company has been successfully delivering critically acclaimed work in New York City for over two decades. Boomerang is a strategic leader in the field of Indie Theater, bringing together creative artists and audiences to tell compelling stories and take artistic risks. We take pride in creating world-class work that reflects the concerns, hopes and dreams of the community. Boomerang is committed to putting bold new work on stage, using a combination of dynamic new voices and re-examined classics. Our seasons have included rotating repertory, world premiere plays, new musicals, play readings and music/theater mash-up events. The company’s goal is to give the spotlight to a diverse group of creators. Seasons are artist-centric, reflecting the passions of the creative contributor as well as the always-changing cultural moment.

Boomerang occupies a unique space in the theatrical ecosystem of New York City. We are a creative home, allowing collaborators to take risks and make satisfying work. To accomplish this, Boomerang has become an Institutional Off-Off Broadway company, producing multiple ongoing projects such as Free Shakespeare outdoors, The First Flight New Play Festival, Rock-n-Roles, and our artist driven reading series, The Baton Project. These projects perform in intimate spaces, and cultivate audiences that yearn for performance that is dynamic and bold. Fiercely independent and fueled by our sustained excellence, Boomerang is one of the standard bearers for the Indie Theatre community.

In October 2023, Boomerang began a nine-play "Super Season" with the world premiere of Amy Crossman's one person play THE GREAT DIVIDE. The season continued with a triumphant outdoor production of ROMEO AND JULIET in Central Park in June 2024. This ambitious project will run through 2026.

Other recent work includes an award-winning and critically acclaimed revival of Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT, the premiere of the new musical LOVELESS TEXAS by Henry Aronson and Cailin Heffernan, the world premier of Lauren Ferebee’s THE RECKLESS SEASON, the premiere of Johnna Adams’ LICKSPITTLES, BUTTONHOLERS AND DAMNED PERNICIOUS GO-BETWEENS. Additionally, Boomerang has recently produced revivals of Shakespeare’s LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST (in partnership with Bryant Park Shakespeare), A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM and CYMBELINE.

Boomerang Theatre Company is led by Artistic Director Tim Errickson.
