Lifeguard

by Kristen Palmer

Winter 2026

Penny just graduated high school and spends her days lifeguarding, wondering what her future should be. Beatty’s already walked away from school and hangs around the pool with nowhere else to go. Josh, a high school English teacher on summer break, is simply trying to swim his laps—preferably without interruption. But as the weight of decisions and old regrets rises to the surface, all three are forced to confront the same question: What comes next?
